Hello, hello!!  Ok…so as you all my know I am a design chick…graphics, parties and blogging all came from me needing an outlet to express my love of design and creativity…any kind of creativity…any sort of design.  With having two small kids graphics came naturally and seemed to be a great fit since I was somewhat homebound…and the parties???  I have always LOVED to plan a good party!!   This all has evolved into a look into my daily life…this is what I love and am so passionate about  but I have to admint my FIRST love is interior design and my DREAM would be to land a spot competing on HGTV’s Design Star.  A few years ago I submittted an audition tape to HGTV’s Design Star…I think it was season 2?  Well, not sure if my tape ever reached the hands of a casting director but I do know that I was not a contestant…LOL!!  Although, I was not a contestant on season 2, I am no stranger to HGTV…my start with Project Nursery came from submitting Brandt’s nursery on HGTV’s Rate my Space.  Some of my designs have even graced the front page of HGTV’s Rate my Space…most recently my holiday decor seen HERE.

A few of my gal pals from design school (my original fan club – Erlinda, Dawn & Heather) have wanted me to resubmit an audition tape.  Well, last year my “fan club” wanted me to give it another go but I was literally 9 months preggers and could not bear the thought of seeing myself on camera in that condition…yikes!  So that brings me to today…whew…season 6 is now accepting auditions!!!  The deadline to submit is January 15th…so that means 9 days to get my booty in gear and get some footage of this chick on film!!!  Wanna see some of my design work?  Click HERE and HERE…oh and HERE too!!!  So if you don’t see me for a few days…that is what I am up to (:  Wish me luck!!! xoxo~rebecca

I get design questions from time to time…and I though it would be fun to start sharing those q & a’s with all of you!!  I was recently asked about coffee table options.  Here is my solution…the ottoman!  This little nifty piece of furniture is super functional…here is why substituting an ottoman for a coffee table is awesome!!

1. No sharp corners – a great way to add a kid-friendly piece of furniture to your living space

2. Need extra storage – opting for a storage ottoman gives you extra storage to stash extra blankets, toys, magazines, etc…

3. Break it up – try using 4 cube ottomans to create one, this gives you various options…a foot rest for many guests, extra seating if needed?

4. Dress it up – slipcovers are a great way to either protect your upholstered ottoman or change the look entirely.  Plus, most slipcovers are washable!!

5.  Paint optional – living in an apartment or rental?  Having an upholstered ottoman is another way to bring color, pattern, or texture into your living space.

Pictured below are a few ottomans is various styles and price points…skirted, footed, casters, storage, etc…I love any furniture piece that can serve more than one purpose.  An ottoman offers that solution, not only is it multifunctional…it’s stylish!

Ballard Designs – Castered Ottoman, Target – Waldemere Storage Bench

Yes, back in the day I was a cheerleader…and right about now I would love to pull off a cheer and a tumbling pass to celebrate my excitement for this article featured on azcentral.com!!  I knew it would be on there soon,  I didn’t realize that the day was here until a friend was congratulating me on Facebook.  I had no idea how AMAZINGLY  Kara G. Morrison of the Arizona Republic would highlight the details about me and my house!!!  Having Kara come to my house for the interview was such a fun and unique experience…SHE was such a delight!  I am totally flattered and so exited to let you peek a little further into my life and share my design ideas with everyone!!

This was quite possibly the most neglected room in my house…I swear!  Six years of hmmm…let’s call it procrastination?  The design for our master bedroom was a vision for a VERY long time, too long!  I wanted a room that was a reflection of me & my personality…and for my husband?  He loves it!…or so he says.  That may be his way of stopping the design A.D.D madness.  He just lets me do my thang.  Here are a few items that were on my wish list; Anthropologie-ish glam, damask, a little shabby with a lot of chic, pink, a cute chair, a fun patterned rug, bright white bedding, pops of color, etc…the list goes on and on.  The one thing that is totally missing would be a fabulous chandelier…to bad we live in Phoenix and a ceiling fan trumps my chandelier…wah-wah!  We also had to incorporate my work space into our bedroom.  It is not the ideal choice of location, but we have run out of space and have relinquished said square footage to  footie-wearing-pajama-people that reside here with us.

So after a little rearranging, a few pillows, and some DIY art, we finally have a bedroom I love and I am not embarrassed to share (:

My desk chair…I love it!

Fun pillows add color & texture

Fresh Chick Design Studio Headquarters…LOL!

My work space integrated into our bedroom

I have always LOVED my armoire, it just never felt like part of the room…now it belongs!

As a follow up to my previous post, I charged ahead with painting my builder-grade vanity this weekend.  I went back and forth inside my noggin’ as to paint or not to paint.  The mini designer sitting on my shoulder won…I painted it!  So glad I did!!  Not only did I paint,  but I added hardware too!!!  Success!!  I used the Behr paint with primer in it.  The color was a Martha Stewart color {river mist} that I had mixed into the Behr product.  I typically will not cross colors and paint manufacturers but since  Martha does not have the paint with primer option, I cheated.  I was looking for the shortest route to completion.  I should also let you know that I did not sand prior to painting…which I FOR SURE should have done.  Lesson learned….ugh!  Well, this endeavor was really all in prep to tackle my kitchen cabinets and learn from this experience.  So, check it out – hope you like!!
